Downtown Revitalization


Downtown revitalization is a key focus of the Division of Community and Economic Development. Downtown planning and economic development activities are guided by the Downtown Framingham Economic Development Strategic Plan. Downtown redevelopment strategies include:
  • Outreach and Technical Assistance
  • Cultural Economic Development
  • Mixed Use Development
  • Redevelopment of Key Sites

Framingham Downtown Renaissance (FDR)

FDR is a dynamic, volunteer-based organization implementing an active Main Streets program in Framingham's Downtown. The city, through this department is integrally involved in the organization as a major stakeholder and helps fund their director position. Outreach & Technical Assistance

The department provides a number of programs to assist small businesses in downtown Framingham including:
  • Workshops
  • Helping new businesses navigate the permit process
  • Improving the appearance of downtown businesses
  • Referring business owners to other funding sources

Redevelopment of Key Sites

The division is working with the Economic Development Industrial Corporation (EDIC) to:
  • Develop plans
  • Pursue funding
  • Redevelop underutilized or blighted commercial and industrial properties
